While it is a bit more costly than good old shaver lubricant drops and running water, it’ll also last you a very long time and the benefits are worth it in my opinion.
Cleaning along with lubricating ultimately puts less strain on the motor and blades as internal pieces create less friction when they’re slick.
This does a couple positive things for you, including extending your shaver’s lifespan and improving closeness along with reducing overall irritation for easy recipients of razor burn.

How to Clean Your Electric Shaver With Cleaning & Lubricating Spray
The process of using spray cleaner to clean and lubricate your shaver only takes a minute of time and is worth it for the benefits you’ll experience.
This guide works for both foil shavers and rotary shavers, but they both have certain precautions to avoid bad results from bad practices that we’ll mention.
1. Disassemble and clean loose hairs
Take apart your shaver as much as possible and then on all pieces either tap hairs loose on your counter, give a quick rinse or use your shaver cleaning brush (never on a foil shaver’s foils).
I personally recommend rinsing because hairs can become clogged when mixed with substances like lubricant.
If you don’t have a waterproof shaver than simply wipe it down with a cloth sprayed in 99% alcohol.
After this thorough pre-clean, lay the shaver, along with its rotary shaver blades or foil shaver blades over a piece or two of paper towel.
2. Apply the shaver cleaning spray
I usually spray 2-3 times on the blade’s interior and exterior parts, but some shavers are able to disassemble a bit more so if parts are smaller they may not need as much solution.
Turning the shaver on and letting it run for around 10-15 seconds while being upright will distribute the spray evenly for the entirety of the blades and foils.
Using your fingers to distribute the spray isn’t necessary as cleaning solution is much lighter than other similar products.
That along with being able to spray makes it spread much better.
Additionally doing a light coat on the pop up trimmer attachment’s cutting head if your shaver came with one is also wise as it can get surprisingly hot during use.
3. Let shaver air dry disassembled
After cleaning but before use, you need to let the shaver dry out a fair amount.
The first step is removing excess cleaning solution (if there is any) with a paper towel to speed up this process.
I’ve found letting the shaver dry for around 5-10 minutes with attachments off so there’s airflow is enough time to let most of the moisture subside.
The reason behind why this is necessary comes from moist blades causing irritation and an overall less close shave because interferes with the lubricant aspect of the solution.

- With strictly solution and water, you only need to use the spray around twice per week to keep it disinfected and lubricated.
Shavers getting noticeably hot beyond normal calls for you to use more spray, because the lubrication consistency can vary between shaver brands and models with some even needing less.
